MagicWand is a barcode scanning module for BMC Service Desk Express (SDE) and the previous version, BMC Magic Service Desk. The product was developed specifically for use with SDE as a tool to more accurately track computers, equipment, furniture, and other resources using optical barcode technology.
The MagicWand software is completely integrated with key SDE data and provides access to information from the SDE asset management modules in the palm of your hand.
Through the use of common optical barcode tags, MagicWand complements auto-discovery software tools which can identify inventory items, but can't always locate them or determine ownership electronically. The MagicWand scanner application will run on numerous, off-the-shelf PalmOS or Pocket PC based handheld PDAs with the addition of add-on scanners or on purpose-built scanners utilizing these operating systems. These platforms were chosen to provide the highest level of storage space and flexibility for customization and deployment of this and future asset management applications.
